Ali
Matthews receives Woman of the Year Award and
a CGMA Covenant Award for her musical accomplishments. Stratford singer-songwriter, Ali Matthews has once again received special honour for her musical endeavours, this time, twice in one week. On Wednesday, October 19th, Matthews was named Woman of the Year for her contribution to the Arts in Perth County. Five other women along with Matthews were honoured at a ceremony celebrating the outstanding achievements of women in the areas of community service, arts, youth leadership, women in the workplace, public affairs, and advocacy for anti-violence. The event in support of Stratford’s Optimism Place included an address from Labour Minister, Steve Peters who stated that "We need to celebrate the vital contribution you make to community life". There was also a special video-taped address from Sandra Pupatello, Minister of Community and Social Services and Women’s Issues, in which she thanked the nominees for being role-models for young women. Matthews was thrilled and humbled to receive such recognition but insisted on keeping it in perspective. "It’s so rewarding to be honoured for doing something that you already feel so passionate about. I feel that it is a privilege to use my music to encourage people and to promote the cause of so many worthwhile charities. I must admit though… my kids and I had a good chuckle about it. We agreed that I may be "Woman of the Year" but I still have the messiest house in Stratford." On Saturday, October 22nd, Matthews headed to Toronto for the 27th annual Gospel Music Association Covenant Awards were she took home top honours in the Seasonal Song of the Year category for the title track of her Christmas CD, On Angels’ Wings. In her acceptance speech, she credited the "superb production skills" of her co-producer and musical partner of 6 years, guitarist, Rick Francis for the success of the song. "I sat down and wrote this song on an acoustic guitar but when I took it into the studio, Rick added that magical ‘stuff’- the ‘ear-candy’ that really allows this song to capture the wonder and mystery of Christmas. I am so lucky to be working with Rick." All of this recognition has come just in time for Matthew’s 40th birthday (Oct 24th). "I have always thought that turning 40 would be a bitter-sweet moment for me as a woman. It’s a time when you notice those little lines around your eyes and you look back at your life and all your goals and dreams and wonder if you have really accomplished anything worthwhile. But this has all been so validating to me. Last weekend I returned from a beautiful trip to Greece with two of the most precious people in my life (my mom, Louise and my sister, Sonia). Then I get these wonderful awards. At the same time, my husband John and I have the privilege of being involved in such exciting charitable work. John is a rep for FTC Canada (Feed the Children) and Matthews’ Christmas CD is being used as a fundraiser for the organization. Plus, I am watching my awesome kids, Jacob (14) and Justine (11) blossom into such incredible, independent, beautiful people. On top of all this, I get to live in the best city in the world and I had front row seats for Grand Night at the Festival Theatre last night." "I feel like someone should pinch me or slap me or something. It seems too good to be true. I am so blessed! Someone once told me, ‘In show biz, never tell them your real age.’ But, I disagree. If this is what it means to be 40, bring it on!" Fans can look forward to Ali’s one-night-only Christmas concert with a full band and many special guest musicians at the Church Restaurant on Sunday, December 11th at 7:00 p.m. Purchase advance tickets by calling 519-272-9658 Triplestrand Productions, Promotions & Duplication the complete service for ALL your needs !!!!!!.
