Wild Oats Records artist Garry Jackson is a singer and songwriter of exceptional talent. Possessed of a warm, natural vocal style, and a soaring voice that is able to convey a wide range of emotions and get right to the heart of a song, Garry is also an excellent songwriter. All of which is demonstrated on his current CD, Songs Your Mother Never Sang,
Born in Toronto, and now based in Newmarket, Ontario, Jackson was a relative latecomer to music (“I failed music in high school, and I couldn’t have written a poem if you paid me”, he says), not picking up a guitar until the age of 22. Soon, however, he was writing songs and playing in local bands, displaying a natural gift for music that has only blossomed through the years.
Garry Jackson’s style is eclectic and original… rooted in folk music, but revealing traces of Americana, country, rock, blues and even pop shadings. Influenced by Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Van Morrison and Jackson Browne, among others, he has now forged his own moving and powerful sound. "My music is -- if nothing else -- honest,” says Garry, “and it's written with a certain amount of intelligence and imagination".
Garry Jackson made his Wild Oats Records CD debut on Mighty Above All Things, the first release in our label’s Singer/Songwriter Series. Reaction to Jackson’s four songs on that CD was extremely favorable, and soon afterwards Jackson returned to Nashville to record a full-length CD, Songs Your Mother Never Sang, which has rightly earned the artist a good deal of acclaim.
